Arrogance.

I painted him looking up with his eyes half closed because that's what arrogance looks like to me. Not loud. Quiet. Chin up when you know you're being looked at. You put the chin up and you put the gold leaf on.

The gold is real metal leaf. It cracks. It tarnishes. I let it. I wrote all that white asemic stuff falling down the top like voices — all the things people say to help, and then there's just his face in the middle of it, pretending he doesn't hear it.

That's pride.

The black wall in the photo is how I see it — modern maximalist, black and white, but it would kill on a white wall too.
