Neon Pop Art Portrait Painting, Original Acrylic Woman in Sunglasses, 16x20
Madrid is an original neon pop art portrait painting by independent artist Markus Lewis, made for walls that like their color loud and their attitude cool. A woman in a black bob and black turtleneck stands in the heat, too dressed for it and not caring. She wears round yellow sunglasses with green lenses, and two hard white glints sit where her eyes should be. Cluster earrings look like spilled pearls.
Her face is coral, flushed and almost neon against a sky of teal and hot pink, and black fronds and ribbons curl up around her like palms in a wind. The paper under the paint wrinkled when it took the acrylic, and the artist left it. Fine creases run across her cheeks and throat, so she looks pressed and peeled, like a poster on a wall in Malasaña that has survived a few summers.
Madrid, for the artist, is that Almodóvar color: the late-night city that doesn’t go to bed until the light comes back. She is the composure inside all that heat. You get the lips, the jaw, the attitude, and nothing else, and the glasses give you back your own reflection. She is completely present and completely unavailable, with the city’s noise on every side and one woman perfectly, coolly still.
The piece measures 16" x 20" x 0.5" and is painted in acrylic with paper on canvas. It is a one-of-a-kind original and not a print, signed by the artist.
